Collection: An Aperture on Nature

This body of work was influenced by the natural formations and groups of textures living by the ocean, their relationship with the unpredictable movement of water, and the natural evolution of form as they morph throughout the seasons and as time passes. I want to capture the calming complexity of this environment on the page. The foundation for the pieces are created with a wet cyanotype process that capture the layers, depth and flow of the ocean. The circle and surrounding organic openings demonstrate the relationship between the controlled aperture of photography and the more fluid and everchanging natural forms and openings found within nature. The circle depicts a photographic aperture, where light passes through an opening, acting as a frame required to capture the photograph. The more organic natural apertures seen on the paper are a depiction of how the volatile environment of the coastline can create and distort the shapes and their apertures independent of human interaction.
